The Flagstaff wildfire erupted June 26, 2012 in the foothills south of the Boulder Flatirons. Southwesterly winds blew the flames and smoke over the summit of South Boulder Peak and onto neighboring Bear Mountain. At the moment the fire is small compared to the devastating Waldo Canyon and High Park fires, but after a week of record temperatures in the 100s, any fire can quickly become a major disaster.
